ryu & wyatt | whitehorse children's photographer

This is Bruce the shark & Nemo the clown fish. Er... I mean this is Ryu & Wyatt. They came to the studio for the Boo! Sessions I held earlier this month and I think this has got to be one of the cleverest sibling costume ideas ever. If you little people in your life, you'll understand why this is a very dynamic duo!

I have a personal affection for the movie, Finding Nemo, as it was played at my wedding between the ceremony & reception at the Roxy Cinegog in Victoria BC. Long, crazy story. I'll tell ya some other time :)

seamus | whitehorse baby photographer

This is my new best buddy Seamus. He is a nine month old beautifully chubby fella and he came down to the studio recently to share his charm and sweet personality with me. He gave me smiles and laughs and all the cuteness I could handle.

I love his little Willie Nelson onesie! Kinda rockstar, don't ya think?

and let's be honest here... is there anything more delectable than a chubby, naked baby? I think not!

louis | whitehorse baby photographer

Many of you will likely recognize this fine young fellow. This is the one and only Louis. You were first acquainted with him in his mama & daddy's maternity session HERE and again in his birth video HERE and of course in his newborn session HERE. He's a very well-published young man and when I was shooting all those kids in their halloween costumes, I asked his mama, Darcy to bring him down so I could see him in his super cute costume. Link

He has the best smile, the most shiny bright eyes and Lord have mercy, that delicious (naturally occuring) Justin Bieber-esque hairdo. I don't know how babies continue to be so flippin' cute but I almost can't handle it! Almost.

Seriously? Bubbles? How is a person supposed to resist those?!?

birthday boy | whitehorse children's photographer

This is my oldest son, Noah. He was born on Oct 28th, thirteen years ago and of all his birthdays (with the exception of his first) this one is particularly nostalgic and reflective. I remember the day I met this boy. I remember how terrified I was to be in charge of this small person and for influencing him in a way that he would grow up to be a kind, compassionate, smart, independent person with a strong sense of right & wrong. And you know what, that's exactly what he's grown up to be. He is whip smart (94-96% in all his classes), charming, funny, and extremely kind. He has such a good heart and I am immeasurably proud to be his mama.

lachlan | whitehorse children's photographer

Earlier this month, I held a series of mini sessions for my clients and their kids. This young man joined in on the fun with his firefighter's costume and of course, he brought along a few trucks just to be on the safe side.

Early in 2010, when I had first started my business, I photographed Lachlan at his home. It's hard to believe that nearly two years have passed but wowee, has he ever grown in that time.

Such a sweet boy. I'm always glad to have him in front of my lens. Thanks for coming down to the studio guys!

reading list | whitehorse children's photographer

Alright. So the last time I mentioned my reading list, I had started this book. One Day by David Nicholls is a satisfying read with just enough momentum to keep my easily-distracted brain totally on-task. When I headed out for my workshop in Atlanta, I tucked this book and another into my carry-on, cautiously optimistic that I'd actually make it onto the second book.

I devoured the remainder of this title and was astonished (seriously! I never use that word but that's what happened) at the ending. I really don't like it when a novel either leaves you hanging at the end or the ending is just plain dumb. Not here. This ending was brutal, raw and intense. I never saw it coming. So good!

I give this story 4 out of 5 stars. I don't think I'd read it again now that the element of surprise is gone but I savored every page-turn and am super happy that I read it.

This is the other title I brought with me to Atlanta. Secret Daughter by Shilpi Somaya Gowda I read almost the whole thing on the flight from Utah to Atlanta. There were a few chapters left and on my first night in the hotel, I drew a deep, hot bubble bath and read this one until the tears were streaming down my face. The emotion was so immediate and the storyline addictive. I learned a few things about the culture in India and feel like I truly gained something from having read this novel. This one was a 5-star read, without a doubt. Loved it to pieces.

lotsa new props | whitehorse baby photographer

Now that the "summer" weather is gone and it's chilly outside again, I've pulled out my knitting needles and am ready to start beefing up my knitted props selection. So far I've added the following goodies to my collection at the studio:

A lovely chocolate brown loosely knit wrap, perfect for newborns. And I spun the yarn for this one myself last fall.

multi colored toque coordinates with purple fleece blanket (size nb-3months)

two pastel multi colored simple beanies that coordinate with the fluffy blue blanket. Fits nb-3 months. Perfect for twins!

These colors make me so happy! Peach, orange, dark red and a tabacco-ish shade in two styles. I'm dying to use the one with the long tail. Both hats coordinate with the dark red fleece blanket. sized for nb-3 months.

these colors are perfect for the little fellas who frequent my studio. Sage green, light tan and a deep olive shade coordinate with this light beige fleece blanket. Hats are nb-3 month sized.

Lively colors including lime green, turquoise, purple, red & orange in three different styles (all sized nb-3 months) coordinate perfectly with the green fleece blanket.

and last but not least, my newest acquisition (compliments of FACEBOOK!!) is this unbelievable antique chair. the design, the shape, the fabric, all make me soooo happy! You gotta call and book a session for your wee ones so we can make some magic with these incredible props!!

annalie & sawyer's BOO! session | whitehorse children's photographer

It might seem like a long time ago but in fact, it was only a year or so since I last photographed this hilarious, busy duo! Annalie and Sawyer welcomed me into their home for a playdate and the minute they walked in the door, I'm pretty sure they knew exactly what they were at the Studio to do. Sawyer didn't mess around, he got down to business and so did little sister, Annalie.

Remember when I mentioned that I had more than one strawberry in the Mini Sessions? Well, here's the other one. I love how much of a 60's throwback this style of hat is... sometimes I wonder if I was born in the wrong decade...

check out these eyes! This little girl is going to be a heartbreaker in the not-too-distant future!

And of course, a guy can't be a monster without throwing in a few good monster roars. This one eye'd beastie is pretty hilarious...er, I mean terrifying!

gage BOO! session | whitehorse baby photographer

I think one of the things I miss the most about being a stay at home mom is that I used to craft ALL THE TIME. I remember making Hallowe'en costumes for Noah when he was small... he was a panda once with a giant, fat fuzzy head. I loved that costume. This little chap's mama is a girl after my own heart, having whipped together the most darling little Aviator Owl costume for his session. What a cutie pie! Totally loving the chest feathers & wings!

Now if you recall, I photographed Gage when he was only days old... and while he's grown a lot since that time, he still resembles the teeny tiny curled up newborn from what seems like forever ago!

So curious and SUCH a fun age! I know I keep repeating myself but seriously, I have the best. job. ever.

introducing grady | whitehorse baby photographer

When a family welcomes a little one into their lives, it seems obvious to document the pregnancy, the birth, the newborn stage and of course the first birthday but what I think a lot of families forget is that there are a million wonderful stages between the "BIRTH" day and the first birthday.

The three-month stage is probably the most challenging in terms of creating variety because babies aren't yet sitting and are only just beginning to smile and laugh. The six-nine month stage, however is easily one of the most fun stages. Baby stays put, isn't always crawling and will therefore cooperate long enough to have lots of fun and let me create a TON of gorgeous images for mom & dad to enjoy.

Take Grady for example, he's a gorgeous little fatty-cakes who is almost 6 months old. He stayed put, smiled, laughed and had a wonderful time. There are no shortage of creative ways for me to document this stage in your baby's first year. I would love to see more chubby babes coming into the studio so that we can make more images like these together!

Just look at the fun we can have with something as simple as a straw fedora!

And don't even get me started on receiving blankets!!

Babies at this age are curious and super easy to entertain. Don't miss this golden opportunity to celebrate your wee one at this fun & fleeting stage.

Did I mention the chubby, delicious baby rolls? *swoon*

brooklyn's BOO! session | whitehorse children's photographer

Here's Brooklyn. She was Tinkerbell but not all the fairy dust in the world was going to help this sweetie from being totally NOT COOL with the dark area in my studio... so we stuck to the bright and cheery orange wall for these photos.

We were partyin' pretty hard with some Black Eyed Peas playing while she posed and I shot. It was a match made in heaven!

and yeah, when you're a girl and dressed up like Tinkerbell, you better be rockin' some serious cuteness, right??

This was a fun session full of dancing, posing, partying and laughs. Awesome!

kenzie's BOO! session | whitehorse baby photographer

October around the studio is a time for little ones, costumes and fun photos! This year, I had the opportunity to see my clients come into the studio with their kiddos in some of the sweetest costumes I've ever seen. This is Miss Kenzie and as you can see, she's a strawberry. And I must say, she's one of the cutest strawberries I've ever seen!

She was a darling and brought her happiest mojo to our session. It was a really fun time and I know her mama, Jerri will be delighted with these images.

I can hardly stand the cuteness... those big brown eyes definitely make me swoon!

chase, danica & jennifer | whitehorse chidren's photographer

Last week, I ended my work week in the best way I know how. Photographing kids :) I met with these guys at the studio and we had a great time! This is one seriously fantastic group of kids.

This is Chase. He was the only boy but that doesn't mean that he didn't have a great time, in fact I think it's entirely possible that he had the most fun out of everybody.

This is Danica. She has appeared on here several times and each time I photograph her, I'm certain that she gets sweeter.

This little beauty is Jennifer. She (just like the others) was so wonderful to work with and I think this image says it all.

But in truth, there's nothing I love more than a good outtake :)
