birthday boy | whitehorse children's photographer

This is my oldest son, Noah. He was born on Oct 28th, thirteen years ago and of all his birthdays (with the exception of his first) this one is particularly nostalgic and reflective. I remember the day I met this boy. I remember how terrified I was to be in charge of this small person and for influencing him in a way that he would grow up to be a kind, compassionate, smart, independent person with a strong sense of right & wrong. And you know what, that's exactly what he's grown up to be. He is whip smart (94-96% in all his classes), charming, funny, and extremely kind. He has such a good heart and I am immeasurably proud to be his mama.

sethy's birthday party | whitehorse children's photographer

On Sunday, Seth celebrated his 7th birthday with a bunch of his pals and boy was it a good time!! We had my good friend Tara come over to do crafts with the kids. She has an amazing children's art business (Young At Art) and she offers a service called Arty Party where she develops craft projects according to your party theme and brings all the stuff with her to entertain the kids. Oh, and she takes all the mess with her too. YEAH!

Now, I don't know about you but all the junk that parents put into goodie bags drive me bonkers but these craft projects were just fantastic!! The theme for this party was all things DRAGON and Tara came up with some stellar projects. First the kids all made dragon puppets from socks & mittens.

Check 'em out!

Of course, I had to make a dragon cake to go along with the theme. It was not a simple task and I was glad to have 3 tubs of frosting for this sucker!
'The second project the kids made were dragon feet from tissue boxes. We spray painted them green the night before and the kids hat a blast stomping and marching around the house!

Once the crafts were wrapped up, we slayed the mighty blue dragon. Everyone had a fantastic time and after the last guest left, I had a nap!

exclusive birthday sessions | whitehorse childrens photographer

We all have the best intentions when it comes to remembering some of the things that make our children unique, funny, charming when they're young but the truth is, we often forget the little things. We forget what their favorite foods are or their favorite pass-times.
With our exclusive All About Me sessions, you can celebrate your child's unique abilities and preferences. These sessions are only available during your child's birthday month and include a full session in the studio (1-1.5 hours), an online gallery of the best images from your session, an 11x14 print of your choosing from any one of those online images, an in-person ordering session and a beautiful hardcover coffee table book featuring your child. This book is the cherry on the cake. It is 12 pages long and features a handful of fillable pages (much like a baby book but easy to complete in one sitting!). Above is a sample of one two-page spread from the book. These sessions are perfect for birthdays ranging between first and 10th.

If you would like to celebrate the small people in your life, call today to book your birthday session! 867.668.2296

sethy's birthday | whitehorse children's photographer

It was a long, long time ago that this young man entered the world and since that day, our lives haven't been the same. Seth was born on April 13th, 2004 at 7am in Whitehorse. He loves dragons, Pokemon, mud and riding his bike. He's a grade one charmer and he says the reason he likes school is "because the girls surround me". I guess that's as good a reason as any, right?!

He's a pretty special fellow and I wouldn't trade him for anything. Happy Birthday Sethy-roo.

This box came in the mail from my dad more than a week before his birthday. He asked me daily if he could open it up. It was KILLING him knowing there was a package with his name on it that he couldn't open the second it arrived. He peeled back the shipping paper, tore away the gift wrap and pried open the box to find a giant dragon stuffy inside. I think my dad won the "favorite gift" award. That's alright though, Papas are allowed to have that honor now and again, no?

It's a tradition, doncha know, to wear all the ribbons & bows on your head.

My boy isn't a complicated fellow. Birthday cake was simple : angel food cake topped with raspberries & whipped cream. Yummers!

a slice of life | whitehorse children's photographer

It's funny how when you're a photographer, it's hard to remember to photograph your own kids. This was almost one such incident. It seems that since starting my photography business last year, I've photographed my kids less and less... which is sad, seeing as they were the reason I started taking photos in the first place. Maybe I gotta just keep my camera handy and just grab more of these moments as they happen.

My kids are so darn funny, they kill me. Sethy looks like he was in a bar fight with all those gaps in his teeth! Love it!

chef noah cooks up a fine meal | whitehorse children's photographer

A few weeks ago, I was at an agriculture event that was about food security and communities being able to feed themselves. There was an interesting young guy at my table named Jay McRobb. He's a chef who just so happened to be teaching a cooking class to kids right in Noah's age range. I handed him the fee on the spot and called Noah to inform him that he was participating in a cooking class the next day.

There were about 6 kids in the class and Noah was the youngest... however, he was the first one finished and I'm pretty sure he had the time fo his life. I think that if given the chance, he'd do that again every day! Thanks for being such a cool teacher, Jay. Noah had so much fun!!

Jay McRobb also teaches adults and kids to cook privately. He's just started a new business teaching & catering. Fan him on Facebook and keep him in mind for your next dinner party or back yard wedding!
