shooting clinic | whitehorse children's photographer

As you know, I am not a family photographer but I am definitely a children's photographer. At the NAPCP retreat in Vail Colorado, we were split into groups of 5 or 6 photographers and were accompanied by team leaders who not only pushed us creatively but in my case, got me shooting in a way I don't normally - even managed to play with my wide-angle lens which usually gathers dust in my camera bag. Please note that I am not photographing families here in Whitehorse, but these images were extremely fun to make and I really enjoyed the adventure of working in such a creative way shooting subjects I wouldn't otherwise shoot in my work at home.

This mother and daughter duo made my heart swell just a little. Not only are they total knockouts but they were absolutely lovely!

I mean seriously, this girl will have the fellas falling over themselves to do her bidding! Maddy, you are a doll!

Drew and his mama share something pretty special too. ♥

What a beautiful family. I could've photographed these guys till the sun set!

I bet these guys get along this well when nobody's looking! So much fun :)

newborn workshop | whitehorse newborn photographer

During the past week, I was fortunate enough to have the privilege of working with two newborn photographers whose work I have admired since I began my business early last year. These two wonderful women, Tracy Raver & Kelley Ryden are sisters who specialize in only newborns and they were generous enough to share what they know with those in attendance at the annual NAPCP retreat which was held in Vail Colorado. After lots of information, tips & techniques, we got down to business and practiced camera technique and posing awesomeness. This first shot is super tricky and not something that I'll be able to accomplish without an assistant but it was too sweet to not share it with you. Please note that I am NOT able to create poses like this without an assistant.

These images, however will be the sort of posing that I will be working to create for you in your newborn sessions. Please note that these images can only be achieved before the age of about ten days.

arrived in vail colorado | whitehorse children's photographer

This is a quick post for my kids. See, they wanted me to bring their stuffies with me on this trip and show them where I am during this trip. So Seth & Noah, this is my fancy-schmancy room. Yep, I'll have to share this room hopefully with someone who doesn't snore! LOL

Here are the beloved stuffies on my bed. That's Buddy on the left. He's Sethy's rabbit from babyhood. Buddy has definitely seen better days. He's lost an ear more than once and I learned from experience that if you must perform surgery on stuffies, dental floss is the secret. That stuff's unbreakable. Try it, tell me I'm wrong!

On the right is Wronky. He's Noah's Stupid Sock Creature that I made for him. He's got a companion at home who is a work in progress. One day he'll get done but in the meantime, Wronky is a solo ugly-doll.

And lastly, here's me. A little worse for wear. Tired, ready for bed and so eager to start a day full of photographic awesomeness. So stoked.

good night family (and readers) <3

haiden & jack | whitehorse children's photographer

My single most favorite thing about being a children's photographer is when clients come back to me months after a session asking for another. Nothing makes my heart feel fuller than when my art is enjoyed enough that my clients want more! And of course, watching their children grow and seeing them blossom into wonderful (often cheeky!) big kids is a mighty fine thing too.

These guys won the bid on a session that I contributed to the Rotary Club of Whitehorse's Rib BBQ & Fundraiser earlier this year. I always have a blast with this family and definitely laugh a LOT!

This is Haiden, a dude's dude through and through (and he's got a wicked arm, too. This kid can chuck rocks like his life depends on it!)

And then there's Jack. Jack is a very serious fellow and he doesn't know the first thing about goofing off. Yeah right!

As a mama of two boys with almost as much of an age gap as these guys, it makes me super duper happy to see how sweet big brother Haiden can be with his little bro, Jack. Always got his back. I love it. Notice it's Jack who's leading the way crossing the stream. So cute!!

In Whitehorse, we have some rather spectacular places to photograph. This location is my current favorite, it's along the Millennium Trail near the dam. And Mother Nature must love us because she gave me the PERFECT lighting!!

guess what?!? | whitehorse children's photographer

Okay, so here's the scoop. For the past year and a half, I have been running my photography business out of a very small, very cramped (and very dusty) corner in our basement. So far, this space has served me well mostly because it was free and close enough to home that I often went to work in my pajamas! However, over the duration of the past year and a half, my collection of props and camera gear has more than outgrown the space available in my home and let's be honest, who loves a dusty workspace?

So after some hunting and searching, I found a space downtown. It's another basement but far prettier and definitely bigger. This is how it all started out. Not very pretty yet but I'm not finished with it yet!

Now the flooring is in and while I wait for my furniture to arrive and figure out just how I want everything set up I am just getting used to calling this "My Studio". I am so thankful that because I have such wonderful clients who support me and my art I am finally able (after fifteen years of working from home) that I am finally able to move into a big, bright space that is 100% dedicated to me and my art.
Because I'm still running the sod farm Monday - Friday with a lot of help from my 12 year old son who is a rockstar (and a quick study, I might add!) I won't be keeping regular business hours at the studio until the Fall. I am booking sessions in the studio so for now, it's open by appointment only.

But don't fret. There will be a party. And a big one at that. Just not until the Fall/Winter. I am immeasurably excited and deeply grateful for being able to continue to do what I love in a space that is accessible to my clients and that is 100% weather-proof. Take that, Yukon winter! ha!

Can't wait for you all to come out and see the new Vanessa Falle Photography studio.
XOXO

PS: here's a look at a bit of the magic that we can make with your kids in my new dazzling space. Can't wait to see you all down there!

and yes, the address is still under wraps until A) you book a session or B) all the signage is up and the furniture is IN!

sari | whitehorse children's photographer

So at the end of a long, hot, sticky Whitehorse summer day... what should you wrap the day up with? Well, a photo session of course! This is Sari. She has appeared in front of my camera once before, many months ago... in the winter but this time there was sun, warm air, smiles and a few mosquitoes. This is the Yukon, after all.

I was invited to visit with the family at their cabin on the shore of Squanga Lake, just south of Jake's Corner. It was a long drive but totally worth the trip! To help me combat the long-drive-sleepies, I had the windows all the way down and Lady Gaga was blaring. Definitely the best way to stay alert on a long and winding highway drive. I knew that once I arrived, I'd get to see beautiful images unfold before my eyes just like this one:

And according to mama, Lindsay, Sari has been practicing her posing. I can definitely tell, can't you? Oh stop! This is the kind of image that makes my heart skip a beat. Such a beauty!

introducing isabella | whitehorse newborn photographer

Is there a more perfect way to spend a summer afternoon than photographing a wee baby girl? I think not! This is Isabella and she is the most darling little sweetie. I spent a few hours with her this past weekend making good use of all my teeny tiny girlie headbands & wraps. Makes my heart pitter patter.

And of course, I just had to show off her striking features with this most fashionable arrangement of lime green and hot pink. A trend setter for sure!

These itty bitty moccasins were made for her by a family friend. They are so small and almost as precious as she is!

I don't know if her daddy is ready for it or not but his life just got a whole lot pink-er :)

colby, casey & sophie | whitehorse children's photographer

This weekend, I had the pleasure of welcoming back a family who I first met last summer right after their newest additions had arrived. See that session HERE. Then later in the year, I held a contest, around Christmas time that asked my fans & clients to nominate a family who they felt deserved the gift of photography after overcoming some difficult times. Mom Ashley nominated her pal (read the story) Rachel and after presenting Rachel with her prize, I also gave the same gift to Ashley.

This is her beautiful family now :)

Lovely family of five. We laughed and made ridiculous faces (and sounds) all in the name of making the babies smile...

This is Big Brother, Colby. He was workin' the model poses, even the "walk away and glance back over the shoulder" pose. Killin' me. Dang cute!!

Mister Casey. Such a delicate little flower. Obsessed with airplanes but not so keen on actually touching the straw bales! LOL

Miss Sophie, on the other hand is ready for adventure and definitely up for anything. Mama & Daddy are gonna have their hands full with this little firecracker!

Thanks for coming out to the farm, guys. So thankful that the rain held off long enough for our session!

introducing leona | whitehorse newborn photographer

This is Leona, the baby girl who everyone thought for SURE would be a boy but SURPRISE!!! She is the sweetest, most darling little thing and she could not have been any more perfect. We had a fun yet relaxed session and she gave us the goods in an extra large way during the whole thing.

I was so excited for this session because although I've been photographing newborns a lot lately, they've all been boys. This was a delicious change of pace and I finally got to break out a few of my newest hats & wraps that were waiting for this little darling to use!

I know she will be absolutely adored by her amazing family. Clearly, you can see that mama and daddy are a loving, fun, and genuinely fantastic pair so of course this babe is just like the rest of the family! She has two big brothers who you can see at mama's maternity session HERE and they were 100% sure they were getting a sister. They were the only ones who thought that. Everyone else was convinced it would be another baby boy.

I think more than anything, everyone is surprised by the industrial sized injection of PINK that has entered their lives. But at the end of the day, no matter the adjustment or the sleeplessness, Miss Leona is loved and we're all super glad that she arrived safe and sound. ♥

max, aimee' & isak | whitehorse children's photographer

In the Yukon, our summers are short but incredible. If you own a camera and know anything about "seeing light" then you know what I mean when I say that the "golden hour" is hours and hours long and it's the gift from Mother Nature that makes the long, dark, cold winters totally worthwhile!!
I have a deep love for this warm wash of summer light so when this family booked their session with me to photograph their three incredible kids, I knew that our downtown shoot HAD to happen in the evening... I'm sure you can appreciate why after seeing the photos below!

This is Aimee'. She is an outgoing, athletic girl with a keen interest in photography. We chatted about creating images for a living and how lucky I am. It was super fun to work with such a neat girl who "gets it" :) Maybe I should think about doing photography workshops for girls. I bet she'd dig that!

This is Isak. He's the little brother and he is (like is siblings) a diehard soccer player. He was goofy, energetic and as Seth (my youngest son) would say, very laugh-y!

And last but not least is Max. He's just graduated from high school and is debating taking a year off before heading to University. He was the quintessential big brother, roughing up Aime' and Isak but all done with just enough love to keep out of trouble! All in all, this incredible sibling group and I parted ways with me wishing that the sun would stick around just a little longer.
Thanks for a super fun evening guys!
