sweet sisters | whitehorse children's photographer

I love it when a family comes from another area (like BC or Alberta) and manages to find the time during their visit with friends & family to also come and see me, so that I can take photos of their babies. This family and I have tried for a long time to coordinate our schedules & availability and clearly, mama Lexi's persistence paid off. These two beautiful little girls lit my day right up and I even made a new friend (or three) in the process.

welcome to the word, levi | whitehorse newborn photographer

This is Levi. He just arrived into the world, not long ago. And believe me, he couldn't have picked nicer parents. His mama and daddy are so happy that he's here and I think they really like him. And who can blame them? Look at that sweet face... makes it easy to like him, no?

so full of silliness | whitehorse children's photographer

I know that one photo wasn't enough to satisfy the curiosity of the family so we, of course, needed to show a few more. I really do love photographing my nieces, it's the only intense dose of "pink" I get in my world and both Madison and her big sister, Hanna have it in spades!!

What a fun morning for me - hope you guys enjoyed our time in the studio! If the images are any indicator, I'm gonna go with "YES"!!

hudson's turning ONE | whitehorse baby photographer

Oh, seriously. How many adorable faces have I been lucky enough to photograph?? So many. I can't even count them all! And this darling young man is one of the many. His big brown eyes, juicy baby lips and silly faces put something extra into my day and I'm so glad I got to spend some time with him. We did a cake smash after portraits but more on that later. I love this expression, don't you?

I love the teen years. Photographing kids in this important transitional age is such a gift because they are gradually becoming the unique individuals who will someday be adults with their own lives, hobbies, families... and I'm lucky enough to stop time for a minute and see them just as they are right now. It's easy to overlook the awesomeness of the teen years. These kids in my recent youth sessions are reminders that they are all such incredible young people who are shaping their futures which will be incredible - just like them!

christian is front and center | whitehorse youth photographer

You know, it's one thing to have cool guys & girls come down to the studio for portraits - it's another to have them grow up in front of you and one day, when they're in front of the camera, I get to see a glimmer of who they'll be as adults... This is exactly the case with Christian. And the coolest thing is that his parents are friends of ours who my husband grew up with. It's kinda like family, I guess. So for me, these kinds of sessions are extra meaningful because I know the family in my personal life - it's a bit of a double win.. Yay for extra bonuses like that!!

Christian was NOT giving the smiles away for free (don't even ask me about the ridiculous stuff I had to do to get him to crack up )- only to have the smiles disappear even faster than they appeared!) But no bother, we still made magic and I'm pretty sure he'll be happy with the results.

Remember last week when I introduced you to this guy?? Well, here's a little more Blue Steel, er, I mean super chill Ben. Just being naturally awesome. Thanks for coming down, Ben. I had loads of fun. Hope you did too!

happy birthday madison | whitehorse children's photographer

This is my youngest niece, Madison. I had her come down to the studio for her birthday and I couldn't be happier with the results. I sure hope her mama is as thrilled with the images as I am.
She is one wild, shrieky, hilariously ticklish girl and I think you can see some of the mischievous sparkle in her eye!! (don't be fooled by the sweet smile, folks! LOL)

a little more everett | whitehorse newborn photographer

Newborn sessions require a tremendous amount of patience and time but the effort ALWAYS pays off. We spent several hours cuddling & shushing until little man decided it was time for a snooze... but when he finally passed out, he gave us GOLD! Enjoy his sweet face.

The photo at the bottom includes his Daddy's special boyhood bunny, Napin who was also photographed with big brother Wyatt. I love it when families bring special keepsakes like this... it adds so much meaning to the images. Love. Love. Love.

young rocker | whitehorse youth photographer

I love photographing young musicians!! This is Nathan and he came to the studio a while ago with his extremely cool guitar and gave me his most enigmatic musician pose... what do you think?! and yeah, girls, check out those lashes!! *swoon*

since kindergarten | whitehorse youth photographer

This young gentleman was one of the first kids my oldest son, Noah met when we first arrived in the Yukon, back in 2004. Christian enthusiastically volunteered to show Noah around and introduce him to everyone. Now in high school, I think they are still pretty great friends which is one of the things (on a very long list of reasons) that we love about living in Whitehorse. When you make friends here, it's pretty much forever.

ben was born for this | whitehorse youth photographer

Some kids just can't seem to get enough of the spotlight and Ben is no exception! I have been photographing his baby sister, Milan since the very minute she entered this world and I think he has been (not so) patiently waiting for his turn!! Ben is a diehard hockey player and participated in the Arctic Winter Games in Whitehorse this past March.

He brought his (terribly stinky) hockey gear to the studio for our session among several other stylish outfits... but I'll show you those later. For now, you can just bask in the awesomeness of Ben.

another look at logan | whitehorse children's photographer

What a sweet face! Although our session was pretty much on Logan's terms, it was a super fun and creative session which was made easy by those big bright blue eyes. This is the stuff that photographers live for... eyes that make you melt into a big ol' puddle of sentimental goo!

Thanks for coming down to the studio, Logan! Hope you had a fantastic birthday!

tiny baby everett | whitehorse newborn photographer

There are few things that make me get all mooshy like a fuzzy, sweet-smelling new baby can. This wee babe is Everett and he joined me in the studio in March for his newborn session. Of course, we were hard at it for hours and clearly, he was worn right out. It's hard work being a baby. Lucky for me, this stuff is a piece of cake.

natural beauty | whitehorse teen photographer

This is Sonali. She is the loveliest 16 year old girl that I have seen in a long, long time. Her mom picked her up from school and brought her straight down to the studio for her session - which she knew nothing about! Talk about a shocker!! She brought with a fun and cheerful attitude while her mom watched us work our magic! We had several laughs over being so surprised by her mom!! She had no idea this was what she'd be doing that morning!! They also brought a few gorgeous saris - one of which was a perfect compliment to the new-to-me antique loveseat I recently purchased... see it at the bottom of this post!

Thanks so much ladies, I had a ton of fun and can't wait to see you both again soon!

monkey see, monkey do! | whitehorse children's photographer

Here's a little more from my session with Luka & Coco. While getting images of them on their own was important, the ones of them together were so much fun. I hope you love them as much as I do!

Here's another couple of images from Miss Sophia's visit to the studio. While she didn't sit still for long, she did keep us entertained with lots of antics and mischief!

wondeful young lady | whitehorse children's photographer

You have seen this young beauty appear on my Facebook page the day of her session. I couldn't resist sharing one of her images right away. It was one of those images where I think, for a second, I heard angels sing. You can see it at the bottom of this post. Kiara, in her ultimate cool style and super laid-back attitude, and me with my "skillz" (as my own 13 year old would say) totally rocked our session. Let's do this again and again and again!!

it goes so fast | whitehorse teen photographer

I don't know about you but as the mom of a teen, it boggles my mind when I try to remember where the heck the time went!! I remember bringing my son home from the hospital and stumbling through those first sleep-deprived days... and yet, in the blink of an eye, here we are in the teen years dealing with high school, homework and girlfriends.

This is such a huge time in any kid's life and as parents, it's easy to forget to document it. We photograph babyhood milestones but for some reason, we don't make these (often awkward, yet precious) years as much of a priority. I encourage all parents to take a look at your tween or teen and put it on the top of your to-do list to bring them down to the studio for a portrait.

Youth sessions are super fun (kids bring their own iPod to the session) and we do everything possible to ensure that their unique personality is captured in the images. I'm pretty sure that the kids I've worked with so far would come back for another session if given the chance so that pretty much tells you whether or not it's a good idea. Go on, grab the phone. I want to meet your teen and capture this exciting time for them and you.

This is Tyra. Stunning blue eyes and delicate fair skin. What a dream to photograph!

just a little more awesome | whitehorse children's photographer

It just doesn't end!!! So many amazing kids have hung out with me and just when I think I've met all of them, another one walks through my door. This is Tyson and he is ten. And awesome. And he laughed at all of my jokes. Even the bad ones. I like this guy.

luka & coco | whitehorse children's photographer

These two monkeys are the twins belonging to my dear friend Sarah, who is the owner of Bella Home Decor in Whitehorse. It makes my day when I get to photograph the little ones of my friends and this session was no exception! Twins have such a unique sibling dynamic which you can totally see in the image below. See more soon!!
