hudson, zander & jenna | whitehorse children's photographer

I think that one of the most rewarding parts of the work I do is when people that either my husband or I have known for a long time bring their kids to have their photos done for the first time and I can deliver images that I feel accurately portray their kids as they see them. The honesty and spontaneity of these kinds of images remind me of why my work is important. Making time stop for just a moment.

more images to come!

time to get silly | whitehorse children's photographer

The funniest thing happens at photo sessions... often the last image is my favorite and this one was no different. We swiped mama's new toque for this cute image and even though it makes Brooke look a little more grown up, I do love it! More to come...

so sassy | whitehorse children's photographer

I live with two little boys and a man. There's not NEARLY enough pink in my day-t0-day life so when this beautiful young lady joined me in the studio, I about died when she pulled out this fabulous pink fedora and matching boots. She brought all her sass & attitude (and her giggles too!) so naturally, this photo is one of my favorites. Can't wait to show you the rest!!

sweet samantha | whitehorse children's photographer

Here's a little more of the crazy fun time I had with Samantha earlier this month. She was loaded with energy and super silly ideas. We jumped on the bed, had tickle wars and pretty much just enjoyed ourselves. I could have photographed this sweet little girl all day long!! Thanks for playing with me, Samantha!!

sweet as candy | whitehorse children's photographer

This was truly such a fun session! Sawyer was a little shy at first but that's to be expected... after all, I am a total stranger and for most kids, this is their first experience in a big studio. We made small talk about school and other regular stuff and in no time, we were goofin' off and having a super time! And seriously, check out those eyes! Look out mom, this one's gonna be a heartbreaker!

By the way, when you're planning on your own session, please feel free to bring fun props like the giant lollipop in one of the images below. Best saved for last but an amazing incentive for reluctant kiddos!

new sherriff in town | whitehorse children's photographer

So Thayer was visiting me at the studio earlier this month and he brought along his cowboy dressups! I love it when kids bring along some of their treasures!! It makes sessions like this so much fun and the images really tell the story of each child's interests. Creative and fun!

change of plans | whitehorse children's photographer

I get asked very frequently to hold workshops & classes by many of my clients & friends. I don't have the availability to commit to workshops but I do have the time, ideas & creativity to help nurture your photographic artistry through monthly image challenges and critiques.

In January, I started a photography challenge that was meant to be a teaching tool with flexible guidelines to encourage you to take out your camera and apply the knowledge being shared in these posts. And because I enjoy rewarding effort and celebrating risk-takers to push themselves to try something new, I hoped that including a prize of a complimentary portrait session for the image that was voted on by the viewers as being the strongest image would make for a great incentive to really ROCK the images.

But what happened was disheartening for me. Instead of taking our your cameras and creating new art, entries were dug out of old image archives from months or even years past. NONE of the images submitted were created specifically for the challenge. I was trying to ignore that fact - as uncomfortable as it made me - but it was the part when the cheating was brought to my attention that I decided to reconsider this whole project.

I had every intention of relying on the honor system in regard to the voting for the image submissions, relying on the selections of the readership to make the most honest selection. I was shown a post on Facebook that was soliciting votes for one of the finalists. That, from my perspective is cheating. Votes were to be cast based on criteria like design, composition, posing, lighting... all the things I have been asked to teach and was trying to make available through this means.

so it is with a heavy heart that I make the announcement to terminate the Rock The Shot photo contest. I am saddened by this and hope that in the future, when contests are run that those participating will exhibit more appropriate behavior and play fairly.

all posts relating to Rock The Shot have all been deleted.

monkeys jumpin' on the bed | whitehorse children's photographer

This is Sawyer. He joined me in the studio earlier this month to break in the new bedding that I bought to shoot super duper fun "jumping on the bed" scenes. I think that his proclamation that "this is so much fun" plus the giant hug upon his departure from the studio that this bed thing is a remarkable success. I will have a few more images from this session super soon!

bc shoot-a-thon | whitehorse children's photographer

It's true! I'm coming to BC in the spring for a couple of weeks to get away from the bitter cold of the Yukon and to photograph some of the gorgeous kids of my friends (and their friends) both in the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island. There's a TON of info and important details that you can read about HERE. Please call or email today to book your session.

Remember, even if you don't have kids but know someone who might be interested, please pass on this information. I'm all about sharing the love and this is the kind of stuff you want your friends to know about!
