baby #3 | whitehorse maternity photographer

Do you ever have one of those "first meetings" with a family or individual that leaves you feeling like your life just got a little cooler just for having met them? Well, that's exactly how I felt after being welcomed into the home of Jason & Alison. These guys attended the 2010 Grand Ball - the biggest party of the year- where I had a Christmas tree being auctioned off. They were the lucky recipients of the tree which included my Keep On Rockin' Me Baby package (a 4 session package that's designed for clients welcoming a wee one into their lives). This session was their first of the four sessions.

Mama Alison (is one hot mama, I know!) was totally up for all my crazy ideas and had plenty of her own. We laughed a lot, stopped for pee-breaks and of course there was some snacking thrown in for good measure! I had so much fun, I think I could've stayed there all day and just hung out. Good times.

She had this giant Gerbera daisy that she wanted to use as a prop and I was ALL OVER THAT!! I love collaborating with creative people. Makes this job even awesomer (yes, that is a word) than I could have ever imagined.

So aside from these two being super chill and open to trying anything, they are also insanely funny. I'm not sure how I kept my composure through this one. Hilarious!

And these are the two big brothers, Cody and Seth is at the bottom. They're SURE they're getting a sister... we'll keep ya posted on how that turns out!

Cody was givin' me all his cool moves... there was some break dancing kinda stuff, a bit of muscle flexing and definitely crazy wild-boy madness.
Seth, good lord, those brown eyes. Can you say "be still my heart!?" Wow. These kids are so gorgeous. Definitely can't wait to meet their new sibling just as soon as he/she arrives.

introducing thomas | whitehorse newborn photographer

This is Thomas. He immediately melted my heart when I walked into the room and even though he resisted falling asleep like his life depended on it, Mom, Dad & I waited patiently for him to give in... and when he did, boy did we get some wonderful images! Totally worth the wait, wouldn't you say?!?

Get a load of this t-shirt! So funny!

And then there's the sweet little bow mouth. How is anybody supposed to resist that?!

Oh little boys, I have such a soft spot for 'em.

*sigh*

Be still my beating heart. Thomas, you are such a sweet little boy. Your mama and daddy are so lucky that you joined their family. You are truly loved, little one.

griffin | whitehorse children's photographer

This is Griffin. He just turned four and he is one heck of a unique young man. His mom, Nicole got in touch with me through Helping Hearts and here is a little bit of his story:

Griffin was born in April of 2007 after a long and challenging pregnancy & delivery for his mom, Nicole. She dealt with a complicated disorder that threatened her health and safety as well as that of her unborn baby. After his much anticipated arrival, Nicole happily returned home with her new baby. Griffin spent the next two years reaching most of his milestones on the "slower side of the normal range". But it seemed that the older he got, the more slowly he reached those milestones.
"He was diagnosed with Global Developmental Delays, low muscle tone and Sensory Processing Disorder. These were red flags for some serious genetic conditions and genetic testing was warranted. Four months after Griffin's second birthday we finally had our answer..Mosaic XYY Syndrome. It was the root cause for all his issues the SPD, developmental delays, low tone, weak immune system and some other issues we may face in the road ahead."

There isn't a lot of information available on Mosaic XYY Syndrome and as far as she knows, Nicole says that Griffin is the only child in the Yukon with this condition. The availablility of treatment is very limited in Canada and there is only one facility in the US that specializes in genetic conditions as rare as this. His condition is referred to as "Mosaic" because the extra Y chromosome is only found on some of his genes, not all of them which is part of why his condition is so unique.

I spent some time with Griffin a few days before his session to help him adjust to me so that that when I returned a few days later, me and my interesting gadgets wouldn't be overwhelming. He's an energetic, talkative and very curious young guy with a keen enthusiasm for trains and really enjoys playing at the park on the jungle gym. We had a fantastic time together for his photo session and I know his mom Nicole will treasure these images forever.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Nicole & Griffin. It was a pleasure to help you tell it and to get to know you both.

father's day | whitehorse children's photographer

I know we're still waiting to celebrate Mother's Day but now is the time to also start planning for Father's Day! We've put a few lovely collections of exclusive products that aren't available on the regular pricing menu just for the dads in your life. Take a look and see if there isn't something that will fit the bill. Keep in mind that we can only create these lovely gifts from images that we have on file from your past sessions.

If you haven't had a session yet but would like to give a special guy one of these collections, we can book you a session with a credit for any one of the three collections listed below and we can hold your session at a later date and make the gift items afterward. This is a limited time offer so don't miss out!

trade show | whitehorse children's photographer

This past weekend was a total blur! I spent Thursday (setting up) all the way till Sunday at Mt. Mac at the annual Lake Laberge Lions Club Trade Show. I shared a boot with Bella Home Decor and we were slammed with visitors. We chatted about children's photography, maternity photography, newborn photography, mini sessions and everything in between. I met some wonderful new clients who are either expecting or already have little ones pitter-pattering through their homes.

Many inquiries were regarding spring & summer portraits and I encouraged several of those I spoke with to book spring & summer sessions early. This time of year, the calendar fills up fast and if you have an idea for a location or a particular date, you really want to call and book your session right away. We try to accommodate everyone but of course, we can't always do that. So avoid disappointment and contact the office at info@vanessafallephotography.com or 867.668.2296 and secure a date just for your session.

Here's a look at our booth from the trade show this past weekend. We received many wonderful compliments on our booth design and setup. It was a tremendously successful weekend for us! A big thanks to everyone who came out to say hello.
